That army which
was enveloped with dust
and placed in that
terrible state,
saw the son of Jamadagni,
(known as)
Bhargava, who
was of terrible appearance,
with an expansive
matted hair
on his head, the destroyer
of the royal race,
invincible like
Mount Kailasa, unbearable like
the raging
conflagaration at
the time of the dissolution
of the universe,
burning as
it were due ti his
effulgence, well nigh impossible
for the commoners
to even look at him,
slinging a battle axe
on his shoulder,
bearing a bow that was
like a gathering of
streaks of
lightning, holding asuperior arrow
in his hand and
having the
appearance of Lord Siva
who had come to annihilate
the three cities
(20-22).

Seeing him
of terrible form and
appearance, blazing like raging
fire, the sages
who had come along with
Vasishta in their
lead,and given
to chanting the scriptures
and making oblations
into the holy
sacrificial fires, then spoke
amongst themselves:
`With ire kindled
due to revengeful thoughts
because of the
killing of
his father, will he or
will he not exterminate
the Kshatriya
class ?' (23-24).
