O!   Delight   of   the   Raghu   race!   That   king   of   great   might, then   bringing   along   with   him   that   best   among   men   Sunassepa, rested   for   awhile,   during   the   noon-time   at   Pushkara   (1).

Having   reached   Pushkara   and   resting   there,   that   highly   reputed
Sunassepa,   in   a   state   of   mental   depression,   chanced     to   see   his
maternal   uncle   Viswamitra   engaged   in   penance,   along   with   sages.
What   a   wonder!   (2).

O!   Rama!   (He)   collapsed   onto   the   lap   of   the   sage   (Viswamitra)
helpless   and   tormented   by   mental   unrest   and   thirst,   with   face
drooping   and   also   spoke   the   following   words.   What   a   pity!   (3).

O!  One  of  pleasant   looks!   O!   Best   among   sages!   I   have   no father,   I   have   no   mother,   and   I   have   no   relatives,   either close   or   distant.   You  deserve  to  save  me,  looking  to the  injunctions,  in   this   regard   (4).

The   king   also   should   complete   the   work   taken   in   hand.   I should   also   not   meet   with   decimation   but   live   long,   engage in   penance   of   unparalleled   nature   and   thereafter   enjoy   the heavenly   world   (6).

You  alone,  with  a  mind  following  the  right  conduct,  be   my protector,   as   I   am   without   support.   O!   The   soul   of righteousness!   You   deserve  to  save  me   from   suffering,   like a   father   would   his   son'   (7).

For  what  reason  fathers  beget  sons,  who  are  intent  on doing   auspicious   things,   it   can   be   said   to   be   for   the attainment   of   the   good   in   the   other   worlds.   The   time for   that   reckoning   is   now   at   hand   (9).
