O!   Rama!   At   that   juncture,   the   daughter   of   the   mountain
(Parvati)   spoke   the   following   to   the   gods:`O!   Gods!   May
you   now   reap   the   consequences   of   your   act   which   was
not  to my   liking'   (21).

having   lustre   like   the   Sun,   angrily   and   with   reddened   eyes,

`O!   Earth!   You   shall   assume   many   names and become wife to
many.   O!   Wicked   one!   Not   tolerating   a   son   to   me,   arising
out   of   my   anger,   you   would   be   damned   and   will  not attain
the   joy   on   account   of   a   son'   (25).

struck   with   shame,   started   towards   the   direction   protected
by   the   Rain-god   (26).

That   Lord   of   gods,   having   gone   there   and   reaching   the   peak
on the   northern   side   of   a   mountain,   which   forms   part   of   the
Himalayan   Range,   entered   into   severe   penance   with   Uma   (27).
