That   disciple   Bharadwaja,   who   was   full   of   humility,   having   knowledge   about   right   conduct   and   endowed   with   excellent   memory,   followed   (the   sage) carrying   the   water-vessel   full   of   water   (21).

Knower   of   right   and   wrong,   he   (Valmiki)   entered   (his)   hermitage,   along with   his   disciple,   sat   down,   entered   into   trance   and   then   engaged   in the   study   of   scriptures   (22).

Then   the   creator   of   the   worlds,   the   master,   the   effulgent   four-headed Brahma   came,   on   his   own,   to   see   that   best   among   sages   (23).

Then,   controlling   his   mind   and   speech,   Valmiki   got   up   quickly   on   seeing  Him   and   with   folded   hands   and   bent   head   stood,   in   great   astonishment   (24).

He   worshipped   that   god   with   offer   of   water   to   wash   his   feet   and   to   sip, a   seat   to   sit   upon   and   prostrations.   Again,   duly   paying   obeisance   to   Him, (he)   made   courteous   enquiries   (25).

When   the   Grandsire   of   the   world   was   sitting   in   front,   Valmiki,   thinking  about   Him,   entered   into   meditative   contemplation   (28).

`A   cruel   act   was   done   by   the   sinner   (fowler)   impelled   by   the   thought arising   from   enmity   to   capture   (the   bird).   Who   will   (have   the   mind   to)  kill   a   Krauncha   bird   in   that   state   and   possessed   of   melodious   voice, for   no   reason?'   (29).
