Who then is the Atman on whom we must meditate (the Apara Brahman or the energy principle that sustains the physical faculties of cognition, or the Parabrahman, the Ultimate Consciousness, from which all existence emerges as a projection)? It is that ultimate consciousness or Prajna that is the Atman, the Apara brahman or the One beyond limitation, not the Apara brahman which is limited by association with existence. Hence the Mahavakya or Great saying "Prajnanam Brahma" or Brahman is consciousness.
